Andrew Scott Newton grew up listening
to the very roots of modern culture, idolizing some
of the greatest musicians in the world, from Stevie
Ray Vaughan to Johnny Cash.
He began singing complete songs before he was old enough
to even talk.
At the age of 9 he begged his parents for a set of drums...
They told him that the house was too small and opted
to get him a guitar
and lessons instead. In time, after learning the guitar
and various other instruments, he got the drums and
played in Bad Stratus, a rock 'n roll band from Bardstown,
Kentucky. His passion for music and song writing has
been growing rapidly since then.
A 2003 graduate of Nelson County High School in Bardstown,
KY, Andrew spent a bit of time attending the University
of Kentucky in Lexington. That's where he really got
the itch to start playing music more frequently and
on his own, instead of in a band setting.
At the age of nineteen, he had already sold more than
300 copies of his CD "Time Passes By," which
was meant to only be a demo for friends and family.
It features Andrew playing guitar and harmonica on nine
original songs and a cover of the Beatles' tune "Yesterday."
The recording was done in Newton's bedroom with no outside
assistance.
From there, he has only gotten better, and has a whole
new style: With his latest album in the works, "Here
I Am," is due out in January 2008 with Newton featured,
playing all of the instruments and vocals heard on the
album.
When he plays live, taking requests or trying to gauge
what tunes to play for those who are listening is something
Andrew Scott Newton says he immensely enjoys. After
graduating college and working in the Information Technology
field for a few months, Andrew's dream of becoming a
career musician became a reality. In May, 2006 Andrew
began to play several local venues, regularly, playing
an average of five nights a week.
Since then he has he has only expanded his horizons,
by singing all around Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and
Daytona Beach, Florida; capturing fans and listeners
by the hundreds: The word is out. "As much as I
enjoy singing for the people in my hometown, I want
to keep expanding and share my music with the world.
I was born with a gift, and I want to use it; I want
everybody to enjoy it." There is a small bit of
every genre and enormous amounts of emotion heard and
seen in Andrew Scott Newton's performances.
When asked about his passion for music and performing,
Newton replies,
"Music is a part of me that will never die or grow
old
I feel everything that I sing and write, from
the depths of my heart and soul. When you hit that note
and the people in the audience start yelling and screaming,
and the chills go up and down your spine, that's it
That's
when you know you've done something right"
